The computer is nice, lots of bells and whistles, but be prepared for lousy customer support. I sent my computer in to HP for a keyboard fix and it came back battered and with MORE problems than when I sent it out. Have tried for five weeks to get a keyboard out of the parts store, but nothing yet. Unbelievable maze of phone calls and guys in India with no information. For the price and lousy support, you're better off with a smaller brand name or generic. Sadly I'll probably buy a Mac next time after all of this crap.
Pros: nice machine

boosted the memory from 1 gig
to 2 gig. Still takes forever to
load. Not sure if it because
Vista is a memory hog or HP
is just slow.

Do regular defrag and registry
maint. No increase in processing
speed.

Somewhat overpriced
Pros: lightweight
Cons: very very slow

This is the third HP laptop I've owned and I love it. I needed something that was much lighter than a 15.4" widescreen I had, and then this one came out. I snatched it up and have barely looked back. Except maybe back at my receipt...I wish I could have paid just a little less for this laptop, but it is considerably cheaper (by about 50-75%) than it's Toshiba and Sony counterparts. I love the webcam and fingerprint reader. I love how it comes with a 9 cell battery (although who wouldn't ask for a bigger battery anyway). I needed something that would allow me to have several large software programs open at one time while I work on my PhD, and this computer has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. It has a very nice imprint finish, and is ultra-portable. The only thing I would ask for is louder speakers. All in all, I think it's a great buy.
Pros: Super light-weight
Cons: speakers are kind of quiet

My lightweight Sony Laptop, which I had for four years and loved, was stolen from my hotel room in Rome last March. I waited until I went back to the States to buy another laptop. I planned to buy another Sony, but after traveling through 10 states stopping at every Best Buy, Circuit City and Media Mart I passed, I could not find a lightweight Sony without Vista Business already installed. The HP tx1119 had Vista Home Premium and as I got close to the day I would have to return to Europe, I gave up and bought the HP. My problems started about two days after I left the city where I bought it.

Here is a list of problems I still encounter:

1. It will not boot. I turn on the power switch, little blue lights go on, the hardrive spins for about 3 seconds and it shuts down. The screen remains black the entire time.
2. I have to hold the power button ON for 5 seconds to get the computer to turn off. I then try again to make it reboot and after 20-30 attempts, it starts.
3. The computer will not sleep. If I close the lid as recommended or use the icon to put it to sleep, it cannot be turned on after about 10 minutes of sleeping and I have to go through the 20-30 tries to reboot it.
4. It crashes without warning. This happens about 2x each day. Again, I have to go through the long rebooting process.
5. I have contacted HP Support in France where I live. They were very nice but after trying serveral different fixes by phone over a period of three weeks, they finally told me that they would have a repair person call me, come to my home and take the computer to be repaired. I waited a week for someone to call or show up and then called the HP Support again. They tried several other fixes on the phone and nothing worked. This time they told me that since my computer was bought in the USA, it must be sent back the USA to be repaired. They also said they did not have the parts to repair it, so there was nowhere in France to which I could take it. I called the USA HP Support and was unable to solve any of the problems with them. They then told me to send the computer to my son's home in the USA at MY OWN EXPENSE and they would send my son a box in which to ship it to HP Repair at HP's expense. HP did not allow me to ship it directly to HP Repair from France as they must send the computer back to the address from which it came and they would not send it back to a European address.
If you have continued to read this whole review, my guess is that you are seriously interested in buying this computer. One word of advice: Don't. Best of luck with another brand.
Pros: Light weight, sharp screen
Cons: It just doesn't work -- see details below

I got this for a BD present. This is my first HP. I own two Dells (not laptops) and I never had any trouble out of them ever. Six weeks after I got this HP, the hard drive crashed. They did send a new one and in a fairly quick time BUT it didn't work. It was supposed to be the one for it but when you connected the pins you couldn't screw the back in place. If you fixed it that the back could go back on, the pins didn't connect. Sometimes I could get it to work until I moved then it crashed again and had to re-boot. When I got the replacement hard drive, I didn't receive a replacement disk to reformat the computer so I had to wait another day for that. I was using the computer in the "couldn't move or it crashed mode" and I noticed that it was getting darker by the minute. I looked to see if the adapter was plugged in and it was but not making contact. I then checked and the plug-in has gone bad and it has to be replaced too. Today is July 11th and I haven't had my computer since the second week in June. TOO much money for the aggravation. I WON'T buy another HP.
Pros: Faster than the 10 year old one I have
Cons: Service, customer support

In one sentenc I would describe this computr, the HP pavillion as, "Nicely designed with good features but no power". It runs windows vista, which is a complete rip off of Mac OS X tiger, and with an amd processor, which are not learly as good as intel. At full volume from 3 feet away I could not hear the speakers at all. The trackpad is composed of dots, and is very annoying to the touch. One of the pros about this laptop is that you can swirl the top and flip it down for a tablet PC and also watching DVD's with the laptop's superdrive. The keyboard is nicely designed, as is the rest of the laptop, which includes an intgratd webcam that is very hard to access as its biggest plus. Now for the support. When I called HP to figure out how to use the webcam, "Armstrong" in Bangalore, India answered the phone, who was obviously reading of a system tray. It took a half an hour for him to load HP Quickplay and activate the webcam, but not bfore making me flip the computer upside down half a dozen times to read numbers out to him. All in all, the only things great about this computer is its nifty features, and of cours, not vista.
Pros: Cool Flip mechanism, Vista, also a tablet, sleek design, webcam
Cons: no intel processor, poor speakers, bad trackpad, terrible support
